SAMANTHA SINGING AT CHURCH YESTERDAY

This was the first sanctuary performance of the new Kids City Girls Choir yesterday. So proud of them and the great job they did. So ticked at Samantha for insisting she was supposed to wear jeans (she never wears jeans on Sunday!) and of course being the only one not dressed up! Proud of her anyway.

TODAY'S RESULT OF YESTERDAY'S WORK

Thanks to Samantha for all her baking yesterday. It paid off very well today. We had just enough cake and it went over well. Here she is with Sarah Roberts and Melissa Minter working the birthday cake table in the Connecting Place at church today. The Cornerstone thanks you for all your help, Samantha.

BUSY BAKER

Samantha has been a busy baker today. She made 4 cakes for the Cornerstone's birthday celebration tomorrow at church, 2 fresh strawberries pies, and a batch of cookies. She said she isn't tired and would like to make some more. Grandma told her that she is tired and that's enough for one day! She loves to bake and does it by herself but I take things in and out of the oven and wash up a lot of the dishes as she goes. Must be our age difference. She is ten and I am about six weeks shy of 68. Sometimes she makes me feel my age!
Her girls choir is singing in the service tomorrow morning so while she baked she practiced her song. Papaw finally went in the bedroom and closed the door. I enjoyed it but a couple of times was enough for him as he doesn't like noise of any kind. Below she is pictured with the cakes for church. She is a joy to have around.

STATE FAIR OF TEXAS 1955

A look at Fair Park in Dallas during the 1955 State Fair of Texas. Hard to imagine the fair being so small. I was an 8-year-old Southern Indiana girl at the time.

BUSTER BROWN SHOES

When my friend Patti Crane posted this on her facebook page today it reminded me of my childhood. Becky and I always got a new pair of Buster Brown shoes for Easter. We wore them with our white socks, new dresses, Spring coats and Easter bonnets. Good memories.

THINKING OF GRANDMA

I am thinking of my Grandma Sowders today and how much I miss her after all these years. I spent a lot of time at her house as I have an aunt only fourteen months older than me. I loved sleepovers with my Aunt Sue at grandma's house. I know there must have been times when we almost drove her crazy!

After I married and lived in New Mexico she rode a Greyhound bus from Indiana to New Mexico to be with me when my first child, Cindy, was born. I was so thankful to have her there as I ended up very sick and paralyzed from the waist down for a period of time. I was so weak when I was finally released from the hospital I don't know how I would have made it without her. She loved seeing New Mexico and I believe that trip was one of the highlights of her life.

In her later years she moved into town and my children and I would take her places and visit with her often. All three of my children enjoyed her very much. I wish we could celebrate her birthday with her one more time. Now she celebrates in Heaven and we can see her again someday. Happy Birthday Granny.

ISABELL WITH HER 13TH BIRTHDAY CUPCAKES

Samantha made cupcakes for Isabell's 13th birthday. Isabell was very happy with them as they were made according to her specifications - chocolate with white chocolate inside, blue raspberry icing, topped with a piece of cookies and cream candy.

GOOFING AROUND

Carlos and Isabell goofing around with Pastor Jeff on the way to Fine Arts competition at SAGU. Carlos is part of the human video team and Isabell is singing. I hope they do well and I am sure they will. Good luck kids.

BAYLOR SNOWMAN

Yesterday Cindy and Lindsay woke up to 6-inches of snow in their yard. Since school was cancelled Cindy wanted to share some of her "Indiana" roots with Lindsay and build a special snowman. In honor of Lauren who was in Waco at Baylor University, they made this adorable Baylor Bears snowman. Good job girls!

Hamburger Stand 1939

I love this old picture of a hamburger stand in Dumas, Texas. It was taken in 1939. For you who don't know, that is cattle brands around the top of the building.
