Samantha and Isabell are home from camp. They are tired but excited over the good times they had. Hopefully they will have lifelong memories of the fun and services they experienced this week.

Samantha's Signs
Samantha wishes to thank her Aunt Cindy for helping her come up with a poem and signs for her bake sale booth. Here they are at the sale. By the way Samantha made the money to pay off her camp fee and half of Isabells. She was very happy with her efforts.

Lindsay and Samantha Make Oreo Balls
Samantha was thrilled today to have Lindsay come by and make Oreo Balls with her this afternoon. Lindsay was a loving and patient teacher! Thank you Lindsay as I know you were tired after having volleyball all morning and a clarinet lesson right before you came. You made a special memory with Samantha. And thank you to Cindy for mowing our yard. God bless kids and grandkids!
Finally all the oreo balls have been dipped in the chocolate!
Enjoying the leftover white chocolate!
Samantha Getting Ready for Bake Sale
Samantha is baking to get ready for her booth at the church's vendor fair Saturday. Here she is with chocolate chip cookies that were a special order from Virginia. Samantha is working to pay for church camp. She is a pretty industrious 8-year-old.
(I better get back downstairs. I left her making pink lemonade cupcakes!)

Fathers Day
I miss my dad so much. He died suddenly in 1989 and I still long to have conversations with him. I am so thankful he was my dad and for the Christian heritage he left me. I am also thinking of my two wonderful grandpas today, Orville Sowders and Raymond Hawkins. I had some great godly influences in my life!

Flag Quiz Answer
The answer to yesterday's flag quiz:
Our current flag was designed by a high school teenager. His art teacher assigned the class to do a creative art project. Since Hawaii and Alaska were becoming states he knew we needed a new flag. So he designed the current one. His art teacher gave him a B- saying his project wasn't creative. That irritated him so he asked the teacher if it became the new United States Flag would the teacher change his grade. The teacher replied that he would. The boy contacted his congressman and from there things took off. When he got his Congressional paperwork choosing his design he took it to his teacher. His grade was changed to an A!

Flag Day Quiz
Do you know who designed our current flag and why? Samantha and I learned this today at the library program!
Happy Flag Day!
We hope you have had a happy flag day! Steve and I took Samantha to the library for a Flag Day presentation put on for children by the local chapter of DAR. It was an excellent program and the ladies of the DAR did an excellent job. I gave Samantha my camera and told her to take pictures of the things she wanted to remember. She took a lot of pictures, some very good and some blurry. We will share some of them with you.
The local Regent of the DAR.
Some local Brownie Scouts did the flag presentation.
A sad, recently widowed Betsy Ross before being asked by General George Washington to make a flag.

It Was a Busy Weekend!
Steve, Samantha, and I have had a busy few days but they were memorable times. Thursday night was Lauren's graduation at the University of Texas at Arlington, Friday night was Sarah's graduation at the Dragon's Stadium in Southlake, and they both had open house celebrations on Saturday. Papaw and I skipped Sarah's graduation ceremony since it was outdoors in the stadium, that would have been too much for Papaw. Samantha went with the Harts and enjoyed every minute.
Here are the pictures Samantha took when we arrived at Lauren's open house. She left the camera at Cindy's so she didn't get pictures at Sarah's. We will have to wait for pictures from the Corys.
Today is going to be a lazy day. Samantha went home, Steve and I will go to the church for most of the day. While our staff is at the District Council I will answer the phones and Steve will relax on a sofa and read.
