Hawkins Cousins

I love this picture of my maternal grandparents with all their grandkids at the time. I'm sure this was in the 1950s. This was taken at Grandpa and Grandma Hawkins' house. I have a lot of good memories at this house with my family!

Front row: Rebecca Sue (Becky) Sowders (now Hargis) and Patricia Elaine (Patty) Hawkins (now Eakle)
Middle row: Linda Carol Sowders (now Wilson), Grandpa Freddie Raymond Hawkins, Carolyn Sue Hawkins, Grandma Leatha (Leafy) Quillen Hawkins, and Johnny Hawkins
Back row: Joey Hawkins, Judy Kay Hawkins (Fagg), and Beverly June Clampitt (now Sutton)

Last Band Concert

Attended Lindsay's last band concert last night. It was very good and we really enjoyed it. Especially enjoyed the video Disney produced of our GHS band playing the music to some of the Disney movies. Lindsay's band played music from The Little Mermaid. Disney producers directed them and they actually played certain music to the film. Really neat. It was fun to see the video of Lindsay playing the music in the Disney studio although I did tell Papaw I thought she looked tired! It was a bittersweet night. After 5 years of attending choir and band performances in the GHS auditorium, it was our last one. Lindsay will drop band after this year and of course our choir girl is now at Baylor University. Good memories!

DUSTIN & LEE

Dustin returned from Tyler this afternoon and it is good to have him back with us. He is a help to me and I miss him when he is gone. He went to Tyler to spend a week with his dad and his paternal grandparents. His dad is sick and had been in the hospital the week before Dustin went. He said they had a good visit.

PROUD OF SAMANTHA

This afternoon Steve and I went to Samantha's awards program at her school. I was so proud of her. She got 4 awards and all were important. After the program I held up her 'Most Honest Girl' award and told her I felt that was the most important one. The Honor Roll is great, Scholarly Behavior is great, and Tardy Free is great, too. But without honesty those other things tend to lose their value. The Honesty award is for truthfulness: loving the truth, telling the truth, and living truthfully in word and deed. I hope she will maintain that throughout her life!

I messed up and didn't get a video of her receiving her awards. I am not very happy with myself!

Fallen Heros

I love America in spite of the mess she is in right now. I love being free to say what I please, worship when and where I want, come and go as I please, etc. But I try not to take those freedoms for granted. I grew up in the home of a veteran, married an active service member, and had a son serve six years in the Army. As a military wife I watched C-130s load up with men, some personal friends, heading off to war and I lived with a husband who kept a bag packed in case of 'the call'. I understand how families feel. Fortunately, all of my family served their time and came home. Not every family has been so fortunate. When I went to Pearl Harbor I looked up the name on the wall of a man my parents went to school with. My aunt lost a nephew in Vietnam, and I have seen young men from the community buried after losing their life in recent wars. I love holidays as much as the next person but I ask you when you are enjoying yourself this weekend, please take a moment to reflect on those who gave their lives that we might be free. And say a prayer for their families.

Happy Anniversary Cindy and Rodney.

Twenty-two years ago this evening in a pretty little chapel at the DFW Airport, we became in-laws for the first time when our oldest daughter Cindy married Rodney Hart. Since that time they have blessed us with two beautiful granddaughters. Happy Anniversary and best wishes for many more. We love you!

So proud of these three for choosing to get up early today to go to the Military Prayer Breakfast in Dallas on this Armed Forces Day!

State Guard Prayer Breakfast

I was honored to be Chad and Mary's guest this morning at the 5th Annual Military Prayer Breakfast sponsored by the Texas State Guard and hosted by Dallas Baptist University. What an uplifting time of prayer and patriotism! If you are ever invited, make it a point to go!

Remember This?

I remember taking my kids to McDonald's when their food was these prices. Now I take the grandkids and pay a fortune!

Lindsay and Steffinee as Toddlers

I love this picture Cindy found of Lindsay and Steffinee when they were young. Most of my grandchildren were spaced out but these two are only 4 months apart in age. It was always interesting to see them together when they were little girls. In this picture Lindsay is sharing the special aroma of a candle with Steffinee. They are beautiful young ladies now but sometimes I still miss those early days.

Thanks to Chad's Family

Thank you to Chad and family for this skillet I have been wanting. I told the kids it would make a good weapon and perhaps we should try it out on Carlos!

Pretty Roses From Christy and Dustin

Early Birthday Lunch

Thank you to Cindy and Traci for my early birthday lunch. They took me to a diner in Dallas today for lunch and I enjoyed it very much. I turned down the fancy places for some good old-fashion home-style food. Love you, girls!

COLLEGE IS WINDING DOWN FOR THIS SEMESTER

Dustin has his last final of this semester tomorrow and Lauren has her last one on Monday. Hard to believe another school year is over. Good luck to both on their exams.

A healthy breakfast before a big final! Made Dustin one of his favorites this morning, an omelet in his Tupperware® Microwave Breakfast Maker. If you don't have one of these, you don't know what a great tool is missing from your kitchen. Check it out by going to my website atwww.my.tupperware.com/lindacwilson
